How to lose tens of thousands of crowns in just a few minutes.

| 30. 3. 2026

What can you do about it today?

Over the past few weeks, I’ve come across several cases where cybercriminals managed to exploit people’s gullibility. And what was the result? Tens of thousands of crowns gone, and in some cases, even fraudulent loans.

This text is for anyone who uses the internet, a cell phone, and a banking app. In other words, for everyone.

What’s really going on

The plot is surprisingly simple and always the same.

The prospect of profit or “significant savings”
Request to send money
Installation instructions for the “finishing” app
Victim cooperation = full control for the attackers

It’s not about technical genius.
It’s about dealing with emotions, stress, and trust.

What are the consequences???

Often, all it takes is one installed app and a few clicks.

What should you do if that happens?

Act immediately. Every minute counts.

Immediately:

  • contact the bank
  • Contact the Czech Police

Technical measures:

  • Uninstall the suspicious app
  • Restore the device to its factory settings
  • Change all your passwords
  • Enable MFA (two-factor authentication) wherever possible
  • We’d be happy to advise you in person

Don’t wait for “it to work itself out.”

How to prevent this

Prevention is cheaper than dealing with the consequences. At Fitia, we’re happy to assist with training or simulated social engineering campaigns.

Talk about it

  • with older family members
  • with parents, grandparents
  • in communities and teams

Scammers target trust, not weak passwords.

Follow basic security and cybersecurity best practices

  • Update your device regularly
  • Use strong and unique passwords
  • Make sure you have two-factor authentication enabled
  • Don’t give in to the pressure to “act quickly”
  • Get regular cybersecurity training

If someone is rushing things, that’s a red flag.

A quick check for everyone

Ask yourself:

  • Would I install this app for my parents?
  • Is someone pressuring me to act quickly?
  • Do I send the money in advance?

If the answer is yes, stop.

In conclusion, it is important to note that cyberattacks are not just a problem for IT departments.

These are attacks on people. If you want to take your security—or your company’s security—to the next level, we’re here for you. We’d be happy to help you take your security to the next level.
